Press-release with regard to the statement of the Group of 77 and China on combating COVID-19 pandemic

We welcome the statement by the Group of 77 and China published on the 3rd of April with regard to countering COVID-19 that goes in line with ideas that we promoted in our relevant draft UNGA Declaration on that matter.

We support the message of the document by the Group of 77 and China that calls for international cooperation and solidarity, exchange of specialized information and mitigation of social and economic effects of the pandemic, paying respect to healthcare workers for their relentless fight against the disease throughout the world. It is important that the communication stresses the coordinating role of the World Health Organization in global efforts at this track and the need to ensure universal medical service coverage.

We point out that over 130 states that co-authored this document have spoken up against illegal coercive measures that undermine the fight against the epidemic at national levels and the solidarity of global community.

We believe it important that the statement of the Group of 77 and China that expresses position of the majority of UN Member-States goes in line with rejection of politicized approaches and in favor of positive unifying agenda for international interaction that our country fully shares.

As it is known, earlier we have put forward a similar in essence draft UNGA Declaration on Solidarity in Countering COVID-19, which, however, was blocked by a number of Western countries and some of their henchmen.

Comments by the latter states, among which Ukraine is the most ardent, cannot but puzzle – to say the least. Kiev views our appeals to facilitate developing countries’ fight against the coronavirus as “Moscow’s sly plans”. Such narrow approach is very pitiful. We can only wish to our neighbors to finally overcome their complexes.

We intend to continue working on promotion of ideas enshrined in our draft Declaration in interaction with all the interested states.
