On participation of Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Vershinin in a high-level meeting of the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations
On 13 July 2022, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Vershinin took part in a high-level segment of the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations that convened at UN Headquarters.
Participants of the meeting underscored the need to bolster the activity of the GoF in current circumstances, characterized by growing threats to sovereignty and political independence of states posed by collective West, including illicit unilateral economic measures and multiple violations by the United States as host country of the UNHQ. Members of the Group of Friends emphasized the importance of coordination and joint action at the major international platforms in New York, Vienna, Geneva, etc; and reconfirmed their commitment to the fundamental aims of the GoF, namely protection of the goals and principles of the UN Charter – a task which assumes particular relevance in today’s environment of global turbulence.
On the Russian side, our active support for the activity of the Group of Friends was reconfirmed.
