Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations

Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s talks with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres via videoconference

On February 14, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held talks with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres via videoconference.

They had a detailed discussion and exchanged opinions on a number of topical international issues, including Syria, Libya and the UN Interim Administration Mission’s activity in Kosovo. The discussion took place in the context of Russia’s presidency of the UN Security Council in February 2022. Sergey Lavrov informed the UN Secretary-General in detail about the ongoing talks with NATO and OSCE member countries on security guarantees for Russia.

Both parties underscored the importance of further strengthening the UN’s central coordinating role in international politics and reaffirmed their determination to expand mutually beneficial cooperation between Russia and the UN.

Mr Lavrov drew special attention to the problems faced by Russia’s Permanent Mission to the UN because of the failure of the United States to fulfil its obligations under the United Nations Headquarters Agreement, including the return of the Mission’s official premises that have been seized by US authorities, as well as the issuance of visas to the Mission’s staff and members of Russian delegations involved in the work of the UN General Assembly and its main committees.
