Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations

Statement by representative of the Russian Federation Ms. E.Melnik at the Annual session of UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Executive Board during the dialogue with UNDP Administrator

M-me President,

Mr. Administrator,

We welcome the results achieved by UNDP in 2020 amidst COVID-19 pandemic and the leading role of UNDP in UN socio-economic response to the virus and we applaud the dedication of the people on the ground in fighting the pandemic and its consequences. We take note with appreciation on UNDP’s innovative offers in support of generating quality data on the pandemic related issues, such as “COVID-19 Data Futures Platform”.

M-me President,

We welcome UNDPs global thought leadership role in helping countries find integrated approaches to the achievement of SDGs through such initiatives as Accelerator Labs and SDG Hubs. This also includes the recent research on a temporary basic income for all people living in poverty aimed at helping to model ‘Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Push’ scenarios to assist governments in making policy choices for the future.

M-me President,

With regards to the forthcoming Strategic Plan we very much welcome the affirmation that poverty eradication will remain at the core of UNDP’s work. And we look forward for the 6 signature solutions to be implemented in a balanced way leveraging on the accelerators mentioned by the Administrator. We are expecting the draft Plan now to provide inputs if necessary.

M-me President,

As for the ongoing UNDS reform and the RC review we would like to assure you that Russia will remain strong supporter of the comparative advantages of the agencies and will further advocate for the acceleration of UNDP integrator role within the UNDS.

Thank you.
