Welcoming remarks by Permanent Representative Vassily Nebenzia at the signing ceremony of donor agreement with the United Nations Population Fund
Dear colleagues and friends,
I am delighted to welcome you at the Russian Mission on the occasion of the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding on the project financing between the Russian Federation and the United Nations Population Fund with the amount of 1 mln. 930 thousand 693 US dollars.
I would like to acknowledge the presence of Executive Director of UNFPA Dr.Natalia Kanem, and of Ambassador Valentin Rybakov of Belarus as the main guest and the benefactor of today’s event.
I would like to emphasize that this project named “Strengthening Capacity of the Republic of Belarus in the area of Collection, Analysis and Use of Demographic Data for Sustainable Development” is the second one of this kind and opens a second phase of practical cooperation between the Russian Federation, the Republic of Belarus and the UNFPA in the area on demographic statistics.
We are pleased to note that the first phase of this project ended in 2018, and brought about tangible results. In particular, basing on its’ outcomes the Ministry of Labour of the Republic of Belarus established the Centre of demographic and sociological studies. The National programme “The health of people and demographic security of the Republic of Belarus” was also prepared.
We hope that the second phase, among other outcomes, will facilitate the elaboration of National programme document on population for the period after 2020.
It is also important that the project is fully in line with national priorities of the Republic of Belarus and with the United Nations Development Assistance Framework 2016-2020.
We expect that this project will help us further strengthen our strategic cooperation both with Belarus and the UNFPA.
