On a meeting of Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergey Vershinin with Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Amina Mohammed
On 14 July 2022, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Vershinin met with Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Amina Mohammed on the sidelines of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development under the auspices of ECOSOC.
The meeting addressed pressing issues pertaining to the work of the Organization in the socio-economic area; as well as optimal ways for bringing the international community back on track of growth and achievement of Sustainable Development Goals in the context of post-COVID recovery. Particular attention was paid to the tasks of ensuring food security.
On the Russian side, it was emphasized how important it is to proceed from the real causes of the current macroeconomic tension in the world, i.a. in such areas as food and energy security, and ensuring stability of the global financial system.
A point was also raised about the detrimental effect of unilateral economic sanctions, unauthorized by the Security Council, on sustainable development of certain states and global economy at large.
