Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations

Statement by Dmitry Chumakov, Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN, at annual session of UNICEF

M-me President,

M-me Executive Director,

We would like to join others in thanking UNICEF for this successfully organized session despite the challenging circumstances.

We would like to commend UNICEF’s efforts in helping countries to fight COVID-19 and create enabling environment for children. We believe that such areas as WASH, Healthcare, digital Education and Nutrition are essential in this regard and we are delighted that they are put at the center of UNICEF’s response. Russia is currently reviewing several respective project proposals.

M-me President,

UNICEF is an important player of the UN humanitarian system. The MTR report outlines that UNICEF is working to strengthen linkages between humanitarian, development and peacebuilding programming. We would like to hear how exactly you envisage this process and what is necessary to operationalize those linkages? In other words what in your opinion constitutes the coordination between humanitarian and development work?

M-me President,

We took note with appreciation of the attention UNICEF pays to various needs of children with disabilities and their families in its programmes. We are strong supporters of this area of work and have cooperated with UNICEF on a number of projects in this regard.

Thank you!
