Ответы на вопросы СМИ Постоянного представителя Российской Федерации при ООН В.И.Чуркина перед началом заседания Совета Безопасности ООН

Q: Quick question on the human rights election for HRC - Russia is running…

V.Churkin: We are running and we expect we'll win, yes.

Q: But today, a group of human rights organizations say Russia…

V.Churkin: Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion.

Q: Why is it good for Russia to be on the HRC?

V.Churkin: Because human rights are very important and we are in favour of non-politicized approach, serious approach, expert approach. They have a situation where experts gather, sometimes they have a rather excited discussions but the main thing is that recommendations are made to all sorts of countries, including the US, UK. They receive hundreds of recommendations. This kind of conversation I think is very useful. But, often, of course, they become too ideological, talk about things in too a politicized way and I suppose those people who express that view, they come from this kind of a politicized attitude to the work of the HRC. I think we contributed very well, we were elected first in 2006 and we have some things to say about the state of things in other countries on expert level. This kind of work needs to continue.
