Statement by Sergey Kononuchenko, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, at the opening ceremony of the exhibition “Russian scientists who changed the world”
Ladies and gentlemen,
I am pleased to welcome you at the opening of the exhibition prepared by the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Science and innovation are crucial for social and economic development of each country. They help fully reveal the potential of the country, keep impulse to sustainable development and provide wide opportunities for everyone. Innovation is driven by people, by their creativity and intellect. In this context I’m pleased to present you the exhibition “Russian scientists who changed the world”. We aimed to provide some retrospective of the contribution of the Russian science, scientists, engineers and innovators to scientific and technological progress as well as to raise awareness about important links between innovation and development.This exhibition is about concrete people who made our world more civilized, smart and developed. And I would like to give the floor to our distinguish guest Under Secretary-General of the United Nations Mr. Liu Zhenmin.
