Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations

Remarks to the Press by Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, following UNSC meeting on Syria

Q.: During the meeting you said that there are some secret meetings, some plans of a chemical attack that could become a pretext for military intervention.

A.:  Nobody ever gave us any proof of allegations or reports on the use of chemical weapons in Eastern Ghouta. We have reasons to believe that something more serious is cooking to implicate the Syrian government again. I wish I was wrong, but I am afraid I am not.

Q.: You have said that it could be a the pretext for the military intervention  ...

A.:  We are concerned that it might be, of course.

Q.: What happened with your PRST?

A.: The United States presented amendments which basically rewrites our PRST. Nothing is less of ourPRST. So that is what is happening so far.

Q.: So the US didn’t present a new one PRST?

A.: They have allegedly presented amendments but these are not amendments, but a new PRST.

Q.: Thank you, Ambassador.
