Statement by Representative of VEB.RF national development bank Valentina Grebneva at the HLPF session "Discussion on SDG 8 – Decent work and economic growth"
Good afternoon,
I’m pleased to represent VEB.RF – a leading State Development Corporation from Russia. Our mission is to contribute to long-term economic growth in the country bringing together public and private resources. VEB.RF participates in the UN Global Compact and supports its principles.
Given our objectives, SDG 8 is absolutely central to our efforts. VEB.RF prioritizes actions to create new jobs, enhance productivity, promote innovations and SMEs. Our support to Russia’s economy – provided through loan facilities and export guarantees – is estimated at 0.23% of the national GDP. We finance investment projects in more than half of Russia’s regions, and many businesses created with our support focus on high value-added manufacturing.
Through large capital-intensive projects VEB.RF strives to create quality jobs. We also took part in the State program on Integrated Single-Industry Towns Development which generated over four hundred thousand jobs just in 2 years.
We promote innovative financing mechanisms attracting private investment in social development to improve education quality and strengthen human capital. Last year VEB.RF organized financial literacy events which saw more than four thousand visitors. Our entities also introduce banking services for people with limited mobility and the visually impaired.
VEB.RF organizes professional internship for students from top Russian education institutions with employment prospects. Interacting with academia and forging public-private partnerships, we help to build university campuses, provide professional training to address the lack of qualified personnel, promote research on nanomaterials, biomedicine, space, IT and robotics.
We are willing to share our experiences and to partner with like-minded stakeholders for the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
