Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations

Welcoming word by Permanent Representative Vassily Nebenzia at the opening of exhibition "Planet Earth. Fragile Finesse"

Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today, we are proud to present to you the exhibition "Planet Earth. Fragile Finesse". It is a collection of photographs from different continents and oceans celebrating the beauty while emphasizing the fragility of our Planet’s ecosystems and biodiversity.

The Russian Federation is an active participant of international environmental agreements and processes at all levels. We are scaling up domestic efforts to combat climate change, conserve biodiversity, protect our forests and water resources, as well as to raise public awareness about environmental issues to contribute to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. But these aspirations are not simply government policies – they are widely shared and promoted by the civil society at the grassroots level. Celebration of the Earth Day itself started in Russia over two decades ago as a “bottom-up” initiative.

The photos of this exhibition are part of the "Golden Turtle International Wildlife Festival" – a unique environmental and educative project that aims to expand eco-friendly behavior. I would now like to introduce our guests who made our today’s event possible – Mr. Andrey Sukhinin, President of the Golden Turtle festival, and Ms. Yelena Khanga – a journalist and TV host famous in Russia and beyond, who serves as an Ambassador of the festival.
