Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations

Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations

Statement by Mr. Timur Bronitskiy, Director of Department, Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, at the 2019 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development under the auspices of ECOSOC

Dear colleagues,

The Russian Federation follows the fundamental principles of Sustainable Development Goal 4 while elaborating its national educational policy.

More than 99% of children in our country are covered by general education.

Our legislation provides for a flexible approach to educational requirements. That applies to the learning needs of people with disabilities, religious component of education and other aspects.

A nation-wide project entitled “Education” was approved in Russia in December 2018. Its objectives are bringing up harmoniously developed and socially responsible individuals based on moral and spiritual values of the peoples of our country, as well as ensuring global competitiveness of Russian education.

I would like to highlight the Project’s activities aimed at training more than four hundred thousand foreign students in Russian universities. That would make quality higher education accessible for many young people from diverse countries and regions.

We trust that meeting the targets of our National Project by 2024 would directly contribute to the achievement of SDG 4 both in Russia and worldwide.

Thank You.
